Printing
The following instructions are for CS shared printers at 90 High Hoborn, 169 Euston Road, 66 Gower Street and Malet Place only. You must be connected to the CS network to access them (not eduroam).
CS lab machines, RDS2016 and managed Linux clients also have access to the printers in the computer labs.
The list of CS printers (and their supplies) is available at http://web4/staff/srmond/psupplies.html . Please note, this link only works when physically within a CS building and not remotely.
Quick Start
The download links on the following tabs offer PCL6, Postscript or UFR II drivers. Most printers support PCL and postscript with UFR II being aimed at Canon printers. There’s not much difference in our experience between these types of drivers and if given a choice we would choose PCL6 and ‘smart’ installers will self select the type of driver.
All these installers will try to find printers on your current network but will also allow you to enter the printer IP or hostname after performing a search. Depending upon how you are connected and your location it may not list the printer you are looking for, in which case enter the printer name in form printer.cs.ucl.ac.uk. For example , copier90hh.cs.ucl.ac.uk.
The following printers are used at these CS sites:
- Xerox and HP at 90 High Holborn
- Xerox at 66 Gower Street
- Canon at 169 Euston Road
- HP at MPEB
Download the Xerox Smart driver from https://www.support.xerox.com/en-us/product/workcentre-7800-series/downloads?platform=win10x64&language=en
OSX users can view the youtube video at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7kFkvAMDmuo. It shows how to download and install the postscript driver for the workcenter 78×5. The installer will search for xerox printers and may find them but if it doesn’t use the option at about 2.5 mins to enter the name (or IP) of the printer.
Windows users can view the youtube video at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SG3pTcLguYk. In this video they download the postscript driver but you can also download and install the PCL 6 driver as well. The steps with the installer are the same for both drivers.
When entering a printer name use printer.cs.ucl.ac.uk. Currently these are:
- copiergs-1.cs.ucl.ac.uk on the 1st floor Gower Street
- copiergs-3.cs.ucl.ac.uk on the 3rd floor Gower Street
- copiergs-4.cs.ucl.ac.uk on the 4th floor Gower Street
- copiergs-5.cs.ucl.ac.uk on the 5th floor Gower Street
- copiergs-b.cs.ucl.ac.uk in the basement Gower Street
- copier90hh.cs.ucl.ac.uk at 90 High Holborn

Secure print is a feature that allows you to associate a pin number to a printer. When you print to this printer your print job can only be released by entering the pin number you set. You can turn secure print on and off and associate it to which printers you prefer. We recomend you use it on shared and remote printers.
